Abstract

1304019 Knitting G BILLI & C SpA 26 Jan 1970 [28 Jan 1969] 3603/70 Headings D1C and D1K A circular knitting machine has one needle which is provided with a cutting edge 3C which, when the needle is raised above the normal clearing position, severs the yarn forming the stitch. The edge 3C is so arranged on the needle that it does not engage the springs 14 holding the needles in the cylinder tricks or rise above the edge of the sinker bed when the needles are in clearing position. Either the selected needle, or its associated jack 5, has a special butt by which it is raised to cutting position, e.g. by a slide 16 which is inserted when prompted by the main programme drum. The arrangement may be used for cutting the waist opening in toe to toe knitted tights. The slit T is preferably formed in a "ladder proof" strip S and is preferably given an elastic binding.
