Abstract

1303092 Waste heat boilers SPANNER BOILERS Ltd 18 Aug 1971 [29 Aug 1970] 41691/70 Addition to 1190862 Headings F4A and F4S In a waste heat recovery boiler in which vertical or horizontal flue tubes 11 and a bypass tube 20 extend across the water space between headers 16, 17, valve means for proportioning the gas flow between the tubes 11 and the by-pass tube comprises hollow valve members 21, 28 fitting one within the other and relatively movable (e.g. by relative rotation) one within the other, each valve member having two series of openings therein (viz. 25 and 26 in member 21 and 31 and 32 in member 28) which co-operate to provide two sets of openings from the gas inlet 15, one set communicating with the tubes and the other with the by-pass and such that when one set is open the other is closed. Hence, hot gas entering at 15 is directed according to which set of openings is open either through the tubes or through the by-pass; or at intermediate positions of the movable valve member the gas flow is proportioned as required between the tubes 11 and the by-pass. The hollow valve members may, as shown, be conical, or they may be cylindrical (Fig. 2).
