Abstract

1300992 Conveyer systems JERVIS B WEBB CO 31 March 1970 [28 March 1969] 15108/70 Heading B7L A conveyer comprises a power track 10 supporting a propelling member 12 provided with pusher units 22, each unit including a bracket 23 having an auxiliary pusher 28 and a pusher member 24 having a driving face 34 and a camming portion 36 and a carrier track 40 mounted in spaced relation with the power track 10 and supporting a carrier 42 having a front 44 and rear 45 trolley, the trolleys having a main driving dog 58 and an auxiliary driving dog 64 together with a retaining cam 63 respectively; at a normal or predetermined spacing, 80, of the tracks the pusher member is biased by gravity to an extended position in which its main driving face 34 engages the main driving dog 58 of the carrier, the pivotal movement of said member being limited by the abutment of webs 31, 32 and a tongue 27 on the bracket 23. To stop and accumulate carriers a stop 81, mounted on a bracket movable by the operation of a solenoid, contacts the camming portion 36 of a pusher member, causing the member to pivot and disengage from the driving dog 58; the auxiliary driving dog 64 on the rear trolley 45 of the arrested carrier acts on the following pusher member in a similar manner to the stop 81, the following carrier being brought to rest by engagement of a guide surface 60 and hold back dog 59 with the auxiliary driving dog 64. To provide positive propulsion, as is required on vertical curves, the track spacing is reduced such that the pusher member moves to its retracted position and a hold back face 35 of the member overlaps the main hold back dog 59 and a secondary hold back dog 61 of the carrier, Fig. 4. To transfer a carrier between power lines the track spacing is reduced such that auxiliary pusher 28 on the bracket 23 propels the carrier by engagement with the auxiliary driving dog 64, thus power line separation should not exceed the length of a carrier. In an alternative embodiment having single trolley carriers the main and auxiliary driving dogs and the retaining cam are all provided on one trolley.
