Abstract

1396026 Electro-physical measurement - position FARAD AB 21 Sept 1972 [29 Sept 1971] 43837/72 HeadingGlN The invention relates to the capacitative measurement of the position of a body movable along at least one co-ordinate axis, e.g. an experimental animal moving about a room. For measurements along one axis only Fig. 1 rod-electrodes 1, 2 are arranged at opposite sides of a surface A with a third electrode 3 equally spaced from 1 and 2. The difference in the capacities C13, C23 will indicate the position of an animal along the X-axis. A similar electrode arrangement can be provided for simultaneous Y-axis measurements. For measurements along three axes there is provided for each axis a set of electrodes as illustrated in Fig.3, VIZ one electrode 7, 8 in the middle of opposite sides and four common electrodes 9 .. 12 at the four corners. Measurements between T7 and T(9-12) relative to T8 and T(9-12) will obviously be independent of positions along the Z-axis and also the resultant capacitances illustrated in Fig.4 will be substantially independent of movement along the Y-axis whereby an independent signal for movement along the X-axis can be obtained. Similar arrays (not shown) are provided for the other two axes.
