1391772 Polymerisation catalyst BP CHEMICALS INTERNATIONAL Ltd 13 March 1972 [26 Jan 1971] 3163/71 Heading B1E [Also in Division C3] A catalyst for polymerizing ethylene or a mixture of ethylene and at least one other 1- olefin comprises chromium oxide supported on silica, alumina, zirconia, thoria or composites thereof (e.g. silica-alumina) which is activated by heating at 250 to 1200‹C in the presence of a compound containing the hexafluorotitanate anion (e.g. ammonium hexafluorotitanate) and preferably also in the presence of air.
