Abstract

1391286 Valves P S VON CORPON 30 March 1972 [6 April 1971 30 Nov 1971] 15141/72 Heading F2V A hot and cold water mixing tap comprises a spherical member 54 formed of two parts 60, 61 with an elastic joint 67 between them to urge them into fluid-tight contact with the housing 57, a chamber 71 in the member with passages 69, 70 which can be brought into communication with hot and cold water inlets 51, 52 by rocking the member in the plane of Fig. 1, the chamber 71 also communicating with an outlet 53, and a valve within the member 54 comprising a seat 74 and a closure member 72 screwoperated by a handle 56. The stem 75 of the closure member 72 is of hexagonal section and slides, without rotation, between arms having wedge projections 64 formed as extensions of the part 60 of the spherical member 54. The stem 75 has a threaded end 76 which is engaged by an interior thread of the handle 56. If an attempt is made to apply excessive load to the closure member 72 by means of the handle 56, the handle tends to lift and acts on the wedges 64 to clamp the stem 75 so as to inhibit further rotation.
