Abstract
1390827 Separation by selective agglomeration SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 14 April 1972 17303/72 Heading B2H [Also in Division C5] In a process for the separation of solids from contaminating material by selective agglomeration with a binding agent from a suspension of the finely divided solids mixture in a liquid, the suspension and binding agent are passed through a first zone under conditions of turbulent flow, the formed agglomerates separated from the remaining suspension of contaminating material, and the agglomerates together with clean liquid passed through a second zone under conditions of turbulent flow. Further agglomeration zones may be provided, it being preferred to grind the agglomerates obtained from one zone before passing them to the next zone. Extra binding agent may be added to the second and subsequent zones. Examples describe the treatment of mixtures of cake and ash using as a binding agent bunker C oil and a mixture of propane bitumen and gasoline respectively.
