Abstract

1390032 Paracetamol formulations STERLING-WINTHROP GROUP Ltd 23 Nov 1972 [27 Aug 1971 29 Aug 1972] 40427/71 and 40075/72 Heading A5B A free-flowing granular material, suitable for tabletting and comprising (a) more than 80% by weight of an N-acylaminophenol or an ester thereof and (b) from 1.5% to 10% by weight, on the weight of component (a), of a water-soluble polymeric organic binder, may be prepared by spray-drying an aqueous fluid comprising (a) and (b). The material preferably has a water content of from 0.4% to 2.0% by weight. Component (a) may be paracetamol, metacetamol or the acetylsalicylic ester thereof and component (b) may be polyvinylpyrrolidone, polyvinyl alcohol, a copolymer of vinyl alcohol, vinyl acetate and/or vinyl pyrrolidone, or a cellulose derivative such as hydroxyethyl-, hydroxypropyl- and sodium carboxymethyl cellulose. The material may also comprise up to 7% by weight on the weight of component a) of a starch or derivative thereof or a sugar or sugar alcohol e.g. maize starch, dextrin, glucose, sucrose, sorbitol or mannitol; and/or a preservative for component (a) e.g. potassium sorbate or benzoic acid or its derivatives.
