Abstract

1389948 Annular sintering furnace DNEPRODZERZHINSKY ORDENA TRUDOVOGO KRASNOGO ZNAMENI INDUSTRIALNY INSTITUT IMENI M I ARSENICHEVA 12 June 1972 [10 June 1971] 27397/72 Heading F4B Material to be roasted or sintered is fed to an annular grate 7 supported on radial partions 4 connecting two vertical co-axial rotatable cylinders 2, 3 and forming individual windboxes with guide-walls 5. The lower ends of the cylinders 2, 3 rest on rollers 23 in annular reservoirs of fluid contained by walls 15, 16 and 17, 18. The cylinders and grate are rotated by a drive applied to one or more of the rollers 23. The lower end of the space between the seals is closed by a floor 29 to form a wind belt, and a hood 11 closed at either end has a refractory lined part carrying burners 13 and a connection 52 enabling cooling air blown upwardly from a blast-box 31 to be used for drying or preheating material. The blast box 31 is arranged to seat against the lower ends of the individual windboxes, and the conditions in the other parts of the grate are controlled by dampers 36 and a valve 47 regulating the suction applied below the grate through a conduit 46. A connection 50 enables part of the undergrate gases to be mixed with the cooling air. A trough extending below the portion of the grate between the closed ends 62 of the hood forms spaces 40, 41 into which sintered material is directed by a vertically adjustable discharge plough 39a. A rake 43 and levelling bar 44 prepare a bed to receive green material from a shoot 45. Ploughs 56 carried by the inclined walls 5 of the windboxes direct fines accumulated on the floor 29 to shoots 54 delivering to the discharge conveyer 61. To start up the aparatus, the grate is rotated while feeding the charge until its surface is covered and then stopped and thehood burners are ignited in turn and valves 47, 49, 51 and baffles 36 adjusted so that the sintering process travels round the grate in the opposite direction to the direction of rotation. When the layer of pellets is sintered, the air flows are adjusted for normal operation and the grate is once more rotated.
