Abstract
1383557 Soldering PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 29 March 1972 [1 April 1971] 14810/72 Heading B3R [Also in Division H1] A method of making rotary anodes for X-ray tubes of the type in which a target layer of tungsten, molybdenum, tantalum or rhenium, or alloys of two or more of these is secured to a graphite support by a solder layer of zirconium and or titanium, the method consisting of soldering by heating the target layer, solder and support to a temperature just above the softening point of the eutectic formed at the boundary between target layer and the solder but below the softening point of the latter, the thickness of the solder prior to soldering being sufficient to avoid total absorption thereof by the support. Specific soldering temperatures ranging from 1520‹ C. to 1820‹ C. are given for various combinations of metals. The solder layer should have a thickness of not less than 200 Ám and 150 Ám for titanium and zirconium respectively.
