Abstract

1381740 Regulating drive to compressors H BAUER 28 July 1972 [29 Dec 1971] 35366/72 Heading F1N [Also in Division F2] A compressor installation in which an electric motor 2 drives the compressor 1 via a V-belt drive system 15, 16, 21, comprises means for regulating tension in the V-belt in dependance on the output pressure of the compressor. A cylinder 7 is pivoted at 23 to an arm 22 on motor 2, and a piston 17, reciprocal in cylinder 7, has a rod 18 pivotally connected at 19 to a plate 3 rotatably mounted on a fixed shaft 4, the compressor 1 being mounted on plate 3. A spring 8 is pre-compressed between an adjustable nut 9, threaded on to an extension of cylinder 7, and a part 20 rigid with plate 3. Initially, the spring 8 is pre-stressed to provide a tension in belts 21 which is sufficient for the starting-up of the compressor 1 by motor 3. The output from compressor 1 leads via pipe 24 to an oil separation tank 10 and then to consumers via pipe 25. A conduit 13 joins cylinder 7 to tank 10 via a pressure-reducing valve 11. Thus, during operation, when a higher tension in belts 21 is required compared with that for starting, pressure in cylinder 7 from compressor 1 leads to a further urging apart of plate 3 and arm 22, and thus of pulley 15, 16 which leads to an increase in V-belt tension. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1004580.
