1379290 Dimethinecyanine dyes FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 22 Dec 1972 [24 Dec 1971] 59558/72 Heading C4P [Also in Division G2] Dimethinecyanine dyes of the formula where R<SP>1</SP> is H or NO 2 ; R<SP>2</SP> is H, Cl, 1-8C alkyl, carboxyl or (1-4C alkoxy)-carbonyl; R<SP>3</SP> is H, 1-6C alkyl which may be substituted or aryl.; R<SP>4</SP> is 1-6C alkyl which may be substituted or aryl; L<SP>1</SP> and L<SP>2</SP> are each optionally substituted methine; R<SP>4</SP> and L<SP>2</SP> may be linked through a methylene group; m and n are each 0 or 1, n being 0 if the dye has a betaine structure and 1 otherwise; X<SP>(-)</SP> is an anion; and Z completes a non-metallic heterocyclic nucleus, e.g. 3,3- dialkylindolenine, imidazo - [4,5,b].- quinoxaline, benzothiazole, benzoselenazole, benzoxazole, quinoline, naphthoxazole, and benzimidazole, L<SP>2</SP> may be substituted by #-methoxyethyl. 21 Dyes of the above formula are listed.
