Abstract

1378645 Displacing crop by rotary rake members TEXAS INDUSTRIES Inc 3 Dec 1971 [9 Nov 1971 26 Nov 1971] 56351/71 Heading AIF The tines 10 of two (or one) rotary rake members 1 are moved from one position to another upon the application of a tongue to one of two elements of the rake member, which causes relative rotation of the two elements to which the tines are coupled. In Figs. 1-5, the tines 10 are pivotally carried on the ends of spokes 24 radiating from a sleeve 26 and are connected by rods 18 to arms 17 projecting from a sleeve 14, the tines being moved from a transport position to a working position (or between two working positions) by the rotation of the sleeve 14 relative to the sleeve 26 resulting from starting to rotate each rake member 1 by means of toothed gear 13. When the drive to the rake members is stopped, the sleeve 26 overtakes the sleeve 14, and the tines are retracted to the transport position. The working position for spreading shown in Figs. 1 and 3 is defined by stops 34 and 36, and corresponds to the dotted-line positions of the swath boards 9. A further working position (or positions) with the tines between the retracted and the radial positions is obtained by turning the stop 36 into a tangential position, and corresponds to the full-line positions of the swath boards 9. A number of stops 34 36 may be provided and incorporate resilient surfaces. Bearing rings are provided between the sleeves 14 and 26. In Fig. 6 (not shown) only one or two arms 17 are coupled by rods 18 to the tines since the tines are interconnected by telescopic rods (40) pivoted to the tine ears 19. In Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), the arms 17, rods 18 and ears 19 are above the arms 24, and the tines 10 are clamped to shafts (52) rotatable in sleeves (53) on the ends of the arms 24, the ears 19 being fastened to the shafts (52). The arms 17 are provided on a plate (51) secured eccentrically of the axis 28 to a ring (50) by means of bolts (62) and arcuate slots (63), so that the tines 10 perform a pivotal movement during each revolution of the rake member to disengage crop from them. The stop (58) has two apertures and is secured to its arm 24 by a locking pin (59) engaging one or other of the apertures. In Fig. 9 (not shown), a single rake member is carried by a frame (65) coupled to the tractor. In Fig. 10 (not shown), a compression spring (69) acts between the ring 15 (carrying the arms 17) and an arm 24 so that the spring is extended in the working and transport positions to assist return of the tines to the transport position. The pairs of tines may be replaced by single tines, and the tines may be carried not by the arms 24 but by a felly connected to the hub 11. In Figs. 11 and 12 (not shown), the tine pairs (78) are clamped to arms (73) slidable radially along arms (70) extending radially from a sleeve similar to sleeve 26. The tines (78) extend vertically downwards in the working position and are swung to the horizontal for transport by a pin (75) engaging a helical groove 74 as the arms (73) are slid outwards by rods 18 and arms 17. In Fig. 13 (not shown), the rods 17 have radial slots (90) engaged by pins (91) carried by the ears 19, the rods 18 being omitted. In Figs. 14 and 15 (not shown), the swath boards 9 are carried by arms 100 pivoted to a sleeve (103) on the shaft 2 so as to swing in vertical planes. A castellated ring (104) is clamped to the gear box 4, and the arm 100 can engage one of three recesses (105), (106), (107) which determines its two working positions and a transport position in which each swath board 9 bears on the frame beam 3. The implement is supported by ground wheels which may be locked in direction or allowed to castor.
