1376226 Chance apparatus G WACHTLER 14 June 1972 [15 Sept 1971] 27734/72 Heading A6H [Also in Division G4] An automatic gaming machine of the "Roulette" type comprises means 22 for indicating a winning number, a setting unit 24 having a plurality of keys 26 for selecting one or more numbers or number groups, a unit 28 to 32 for receiving and counting payments made by the player, a stake computer unit coupled to the setting unit and counting unit for controlling operation of the indicating means, a win determining circuit, a pay out unit and a resetting device 20 for restoring the machine to a standby condition in preparation for the next game. General arrangement. The indicator comprises thirteen numbered and coloured areas (odd numbers red, even numbers black) each associated with a lamp 46, the lamps being associated with a respective stage of a shift register 44. An oscillator (40) (Fig. 2, not shown) feeds pulses to the shift inputs of the register, and when all the stages except the last is 'O' unites a pulse into the first stage via NOR gate 45, thus ensuring that the lamps 46 are illuminated singly and in succession. Each number is associated with four keys 26 each corresponding to a 1DM stake, and the number groups "Rouge", "Noir" "Manque" (numbers 1 to 6) and "Passe" (7 to 12) have four keys 26 each corresponding to a 5DM stake. The 1DM and 5DM stakes are totalled and indicated by respective counters 32, 34 and on deposition of coins in slots 28, 30 the counters are debited until both register zero, a signal then being sent to an oscillator frequency control unit (42) and further coin deposits and number selections being blocked. The frequency of the oscillator (Fig. 5, not shown) is reduced rapidly from its normal high level, at which the player cannot determine which number is lit at any instant, to a lower level and then over a period of seconds to zero. Win determination circuit. Each setting key 26 is associated with a respective flip-flop the output of which is connected to a respective AND gate e.g. 78, 82 receiving at its other inputs the output of the associated stage (or stages via an OR gate for the number groups) of the shift register 44 and a signal 80 indicating that the oscillator has stopped. Three groups of four lines 96a-d, (98a-d) and (100 a-d) (Fig. 6, not shown) are provided for individual number, "Rouge" or "Noir" and "Manque" or "Passe" selections respectively and are connected to the outputs of the appropriate AND gates 78, 82 &c. Pay-out unit. Lines 96a-d and (98a-d) are connected via an OR gate (102) to a monostable (104) that provides a four second output to a 1HZ oscillator (116), and lines (100a-d) to a monostable (110) that provides an eight second output to the oscillator. Lines 96a-d are also connected as inputs to respective AND gates 118a-d, the other inputs being connected to the output of the oscillator (116) and respective stages of a shift register (118) the shift inputs of which are also connected to the oscillator. A 12 x 1DM pay-out solenoid (128) connected to the outputs of these AND gates is therefore operated once for each of the lines 96a-d energized i.e. once for each stake unit placed on the winning number. The arrangement for the "Rouge" or "Noir" lines (98a-d) is similar except that the output of the oscillator is inverted before being applied to the AND gates (122a &c) and thus 2 x 5DM solenoid (134) will be operated alternately with solenoid (128) in the four seconds of operation of the oscillator. The "Manque" and "Passe" AND gates (120 &c) receive inputs from the fifth to eighth stages of the register (118) and pay-out solenoid (134) will therefore be operated during the latter half of an eight second operation of the oscillator. After pay-out of the prize or determination by gate (140) that no payout is required the resetting key is illuminated, and this must be depressed before a further game can be played.
