Abstract
1374982 Heat exchangers ASSOCIATED ENG Ltd 28 April 1972 [2 Feb 1971] 3759/71 Heading F4S In a double pass heat exchanger comprising a plurality of tubes 11 of flattened cross-section spaced apart by corrugated fin members 12 and rectangular flanged tubular spacer members 14, the inlet and outlet manifolds are disposed at the same end of the tubes, each tube being internally divided into flow and return channels 18, 19 by a divider member 16. A pair of manifold tubes 20, 21, preferably of semicircular cross-section, extend through tubular passages (26, Fig. 8) in the spacer members 14 and through rectangular apertures 13 in the tubes, one of the manifold tubes 21 communicating with the flow channels 18 and the other 20 with the return channels 19. The manifold tubes 20, 21 connect with end members 22, 23 constituting inlet and outlet connections for the heat exchanger. The tubes 11 and corrugated fins 12 may be made from aluminium or aluminium alloy, and the spacer members 14 and manifold tubes 20, 21 may be made from aluminium alloy or from a plastics material such as polyamide. In an alternative embodiment (Figs. 9-12, not shown) the manifold tubes 20, 21 are omitted and each divider member is in the form of a flanged T. A channel section sheet member (30) fitting over the manifold end of the heat exchanger is provided for strengthening purposes.
