1374857 Coin-freed mechanism; testing coins WALTER KIDDE & CO Inc 22 Feb 1972 8185/72 Heading G4V A coin slide assembly comprises a slide support 22, a coin slide 25 mounted on the support for movement between an extracted inoperative position and a coin inserting operative position, a coin seat 29 in the slide for supporting a coin C in an "on-edge" position therein, locking means 40 for limiting movement of the slide toward the operative position in the absence of a coin and actuating means 49 for rendering the locking means inoperative when an acceptable coin is positioned in the slot and the slide is advanced toward the operative position. In the embodiment described three coin seats 29 are provided with respective locking dogs 40, the coins on insertion of the slide being cammed downwardly by screws 49 to pivot the dogs and remove stop shoulders 40A from the path of the trailing edge of an aperture 26 in the coin slide. Coin testing; preventing fraud.-Each locking dog 40 is provided with a coin track 50 having an inclined surface 50A, Fig. 4, so that only coins of the correct diameter and thickness are cammed downwardly by screw 49 to render the dog inoperative. Oversize coins jam between the screw and the dog preventing further movement of the slide. The mounting plate 23 is provided with slots (31) (Figs. 5, 9, not shown) alignedwith the coin seats 29 and these slots are blocked by means 55 carried by the slide when the slide is advanced thus preventing access to the coins. The lower portion 25A of the slide is provided with ratchet teeth (25C) (Fig. 11, not shown) which co-operate with a pawl mounted on the support to ensure a full stroke of the slide. Adjusting for different coins.-The coin seats may be varied in size by movement of slides 34 (see also Fig. 14, not shown) attached to coin slide 25 by set screws 36. The cam screws 49 are adjustable within threaded bores 48 in a support plate 47. A coin seat may be blanked off by a blank (61) (Fig. 7, not shown) which is held in the respective coin seat by the adjusting slide 34, and the associated locking dog is rendered inoperative by a screw 46 (Fig. 8, not shown).
