Abstract
1364160 Projectiles DIEHL 5 March 1973 [22 March 1972] 10630/73 Heading F3A A projectile comprises a casing 1, an explosive charge 3 and a body 4 containing detonating means (not shown). On impact, the body 4 and a cap 5 are shot into the target at an increased speed (as compared with the target impact speed of the projectile) by detonation of the charge 3. An easily rupturable thread 6 retains the body 4 in the casing 1. The body 4 and cap 5 are made of steel, non-ferrous metal or tungsten carbide. The casing 1 is made of toughened steel whose hardness decreases in the forward direction. The body 4 and cap 5 have a combined mass equal to half the mass of the body of the projectile.
