Abstract
1363805 Mounting integrated circuits PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 16 May 1972 [19 May 1971] 22957/72 Heading H1K The electrodes of an integrated circuit body 1 are secured to conductive tracks 3 on a flexible insulating foil 2, which is secured to a U-shaped cross-section support 4 so that the foil 2 and tracks 3 extend of both inner and outer surfaces of both limbs 8 of the support 4. When the tracks 3 are arranged as illustrated perpendicularly to the edges of the limbs 8 they provide terminal areas whereby the assembly may be plugged into a slotted or apertured fitting (7), Fig. 5 (not shown), to make contact with further conductive tracks thereon. As shown, the foil 2 is situated mainly on the outer surfaces of the support 4, but it may be mainly on the inner surfaces, the body 1 then being secured to the lower surface of the central part of the support 4. In either case a synthetic envelope 11 is provided about the body 1. The body 1 may alternatively be mounted directly in a recess on the support 4, there being an aperture in the foil 2 to allow the tracks 3 to protrude over the electrodes on the body 1. In addition to the heatdissipation effected by the support 4 a further heat sink (6), Fig. 4 (not shown), may be secured over the top of the circuit body. Both the support 4 and the heat sink (6) may be made of Al. The foil 2 is preferably formed of polyimide while the tracks 3 are of Cu, preferably plated with Sn or Au.
