Abstract

1358254 Jigs for use in hand sawing G W WYNN 20 May 1971 [20 Feb 1970 1 March 1971] 46070/73 and 46071/73 Divided out of 1358251 Heading B5L A jig for use in making a saw-cut in a workpiece comprises a base 2 from which there projects a saw guide member 12 defining a saw guide plane extending transversely to the base. A face of the member 12 is coplanar with a face of the base 2 to define a support plane for a workpiece, and location means is provided to control the position of the workpiece in a direction transverse to the saw guide plane. As described the jig includes a member 6 carrying a second saw guide member 12a, the members 12 and 12a each including a wearresistant plate 16 defining the saw guide plane and against which the saw blade is urged by nylon strips 20. In use the workpiece is located against the rear faces of the members 2 and 12 and is held in position by hand or a clamp, not shown, or by the member 6 after this has been repositioned. The workpiece side face is engaged with one blade 40a of a selector head 38, or with a limb 36 of a gauge bar 30 after this has been relocated in a slot 58. An adjustable stop 44 is provided on the or each member 12, 12a to control the depth of cut. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, lateral location of the workpiece is provided by an adjustable member 66, 68. A wedge 71 may be attached to the member to position the workpiece for dovetail cutting. In a further embodiment an adjustable bracket locates the workpiece laterally and the member 12 has stops which engage the top face of the workpiece. In another embodiment the base is in the form of an angled plate and lines at various angles are marked on the horizontal and vertical faces thereof to assist in locating a workpiece relative to the saw guide plane.
