Abstract

1357909 Friction clutches DR HERMANN E MULLER GmbH 11 June 1971 [13 June 1970] 27505/71 Heading F2C In a friction clutch wherein a driven disc 2 is clamped between a flywheel and a presser plate 3 by a main diaphragm spring 6 (or helical springs) having a sinusoidal (or linear ascending or descending) load characteristic, an auxiliary spring 21 is provided and has a load characteristic which when added to the main spring characteristic produces a horizontal load characteristic over the range of clutch wear so that the clutch engaging force and hence the clutch release pressure remain constant throughout the range of wear of the clutch. As shown, an auxiliary spring washer 21 acts between a support 22 fast with the clutch cover 5 and pins 24 fast with the presser plate 3 to oppose the force of the diaphragm spring 6. In Fig. 1 (not shown) the auxiliary spring washer is replaced by auxiliary leaf springs. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the auxiliary springs act in opposition to the diaphragm springs on the inner ends of the diaphragm spring spring fingers. Figs. 6-8 (not shown) are spring load characteristics.
