Abstract
1354688 Flexible hoses DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd 21 May 1971 [21 May 1970] 24533/70 Heading F2P A flexible hosepipe comprises two end fittings 1, 2 of different internal diameter, an inner lining layer 6, at least one layer of reinforcement, at least one layer of cellular buoyancy material 19, 21 and an outer covering layer 13. In the embodiment shown each end fitting comprises a tubular nipple portion 4, with spaced apart annular projections 5, and a flange 3. The hose is built up on a steel mandrel on which the end fittings are positioned. Inner lining layer 6 comprises a layer of neoprene sheet and two breaker plies of bias cut neoprene impregnated cotton fabric and over this is applied several layers 7 of bias cut tyre-cord fabric with windings 8 of steel wire applied after every six layers to secure the hose to the nipple. Instead of tyrecord fabric wire cord reinforcement layers may be utilized, the wires in different layers being wound in opposite hands. Reinforcing rings 14 of resin impregnated glass fibre filaments as described in Specification 1,339,722 are then built up on a breaker layer 9. Alternatively a helical winding of steel wire may be used. Layers of unicellular sponge 19, 21 are then applied over a breaker layer 18, followed by a layer of " blowing sponge " 23, a breaker layer 12 and a multiply cover layer 13. On vulcanization the " blowing sponge " pressurizes the assembly. Additional sponge layers 22 may be applied at the end fittings to provide additional buoyancy.
