Abstract
1351739 Semi-trailer landing gear N F WATSON 20 July 1971 [22 April 1970] 19317/70 Heading B7J Support gear for the front end of a semitrailer comprises two telescopic struts 17, 18 adapted to be pivotally connected at their upper ends 21, 22 to laterally spaced points on a semi-trailer chassis (possibly via a subframe 5) and each pivotally connected at its lower end 15, 16 to a respective ground-engaging foot 8, 9, and two wishbones 3 and 10, 4 and 11 each having its crutch connected to one of the feet, the free ends of each wishbone being adapted for pivotal connection at 6 and 12, 7 and 13 to the chassis (or subframe). Preferably the crutch of each wishbone is rigidly connected to its associated foot and the included angle between the two arms of the wishbone, e.g. 3 and 10, in the plane of the arms, is less than 90 degrees. When connected to the semitrailer chassis, the free ends of each wishbone are preferably connected at points 6, 7, 12 and 13 below the points 21 and 22 at which the upper ends of the struts are connected. Various arrangements of the apparatus are given, including having an arm of each wishbone arranged normal to (as shown, Fig. 3) or parallel to the longitudinal vertical centre plane of the chassis; and pivotally connecting wishbone arms to the chassis at or near its longitudinal vertical centre plane, to a transverse member or to longitudinal members 30, 31. The pivotal connections 6 and 12 may have a common pivotal axis to which the pivotal axis of connection 21 at the upper end of the associated strut 17 may be parallel.
