Abstract
1351062 Heat-treatment METAUX PRECIEUX S A 30 March 1972 [5 April 1971 (2)] 15000/72 Headings C7B and C7N Titanium articles such as watch cases are surface hardened by subjecting the article to an atmosphere of a gas selected from a group consisting of air, nitrogen, hydrogen or oxygen and then rapidly cooling it. Heat-treatment is carried out above 1000‹C and under a pressure of less than 5 torr. After heat-treatment the article may be subjected to anodic oxidation which produces a surface colour effect on the metal surface. A thick oxide layer may be produced by anodic oxidation using a relatively high potential. The oxide layer may be then removed from certain areas and a second, thinner oxide layer is produced on those areas at a relatively low potential to give areas of different colour.
