Abstract
1349673 Penicillins and cephalosporins CIBA-GEIGY AG 4 June 1971 [5 June 1970 8 Jan 1971] 19034/71 Heading C2A The invention comprises a process for the manufacture of a 6-(aminoacyl-amino)-carboxylic acid or a 7-(aminoacyl-amino)-cephem-4- carboxylic acid wherein the acyl moiety is derived from a carboxylic acid and the amino moiety of the aminoacyl group is a free amino group, wherein a corresponding 6-2[(iodoethoxycarbonylamino) - acylamino] - penam - 3 - carboxylic acid compound or 7-[2-(iodoethoxycarbonylamino) - acylamino] - cephem - 4- carboxylic acid compound is treated with a chemical reducing agent. Preferred reducing agents are metals or metal compounds, e.g. zinc, zinc alloy, preferably in presence of an acidic agent, magnesium, alkali metal or aluminium amalgams or chromium II compounds. The preferred penam and cephem compounds which are used as starting materials are those of Formulµ IIIa, IIIb and IIIc
