Abstract

1347142 Making metal sheet; working at specified temperatures IMPERIAL SMELTING CORP (ALLOYS) Ltd 21 March 1972 [8 April 1971] 9129/71 Headings B3V and B3A [Also in Division C7] Superplastic Zn-Al alloy sheet is made by rolling a body of the alloy at a temperature of 20-200‹ C. to reduce it by 50-99%, the chillcast or continuously-cast alloy consisting of Zn and 1-19À8% Al. One or more additional alloying elements may be present, e.g. up to 5À0% Cu and up to 1À0% Mg. A preliminary hot-rolling reduction of 40-99% may be performed at 200-350‹ C. The Specification includes a tabular statement listing examples and their vacuum forming times at 300‹ C. Useful forming temperatures range from 200‹ C. to the melting point, e.g. 275-325‹ C., from which the sheet may be air or furnace cooled. A further example comprises 5À5% Al, 0À57% Cu, 0À009% Fe, 0À003% Pb, 0À001% Cd, remainder Zn.
