Abstract

1345152 Burning noxious fumes; heating air for drying CARRIER DRYSYS Ltd 11 May 1971 [15 May 1970] 23796/70 Headings F4B and F4G Combustible effluent from an industrial process is burnt in chamber 8, Fig. 1, after ignition by a burner 10 or an electric element, a fan 15 drawing the effluent from the process and delivering it to the chamber 9, and the burnt gases pass out through a heat exchanger 19 to heat air from a fan 23 which is fed to at least two ducts feeding zones of the process, the temperature of the gas in each duet being separately controlled. The incoming effluent may be preheated in a second heat exchanger 3. The fume incinerator of Fig. 1 forms part of paint drying plant, Fig. 3, having an oven 40 to which heated air from the incinerator 42 passes to two heaters 30, 30a through fans 41, 41a and is delivered to different zones of the oven 40. The effluent from the oven 40 is burnt in the incinerator 42. Change over dumpers 31, 32 enable part of the burnt effluent from incinerator 42 to be recirculated through the oven. In another arrangement, (Fig. 5) the air passing to the oven is heated by mixing it with the burnt effluent, and the temperature of the air delivered to each zone is controlled by further admixture of fresh air. In the plant of Fig. 6, air passing to a process chamber 50 is heated directly by mixing with the burnt effluent from fume incinerator 52, and heated gas not used in the chamber 50 is passed to heaters 82 for solution tanks 83. The remaining hot air is mixed with air from the heaters 82 to operate air heating equipment 88, 89, which may be used for space heating. Supplementary heaters 90, 91, 92 enables additional hot air to be supplied to the tank heaters 82 and space heaters 88, 89.
