Abstract

1343828 Oxazine dyes FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 15 June 1971 [18 June 1970] 28005/71 Heading C4P Basic oxazine dyes of formula wherein R is H or alkyl, R 1 , R 2 and R 3 independently represent H or an optionally substituted alkyl group or R 1 and R 2 and the nitrogen atom to which they are attached together represent a heterocyclic ring, X- is an anion and the phenyl ring a is optionally substituted by one or more non-ionic substituents are prepared by condensing in an acid medium a compound of formula where Z is alkoxy or a dialkylamino group with a compound of formula or by condensing a compound of formula with a compound of formula in the form of their salts of a strong acid and/or in the presence of a strong acid HX. The condensation is carried out at 20-120‹ C., preferably using equimolar amounts of the reactants. The anion X<SP>(-)</SP> is an anion of a strong acid, e.g. HCl, H 2 SO 4 or a chloro-zincate anion. The anion may be subsequently replaced in the dye by that of another acid if desired. The dyes give greenish yellow shades on cellulose fibres, silk, leather and synthetic fibres.
