Abstract

1342315 Sizing paper and cardboard SCHILL & SEILACHER 19 April 1971 [27 Aug 1970] 21114/71 Heading D2B A method of sizing paper or cardboard comprises internally sizing with a reaction product of a polyamide or polyamide resin with an epi- or di-chlorohydrin and surface sizing with a water--soluble copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride, or a derivative thereof. The latter may be applied in the form of an aqueous solution together with an aqueous dispersion of a wax. The latter may be a natural or synthetic hydrocarbon, higher fatty acid or derivative thereof, fatty alcohol or polyolefin. The paper or cardboard may be made from natural and/or synthetic fibres e.g. natural or regenerated cellulose, polyester, polyacrylonitrile, or asbestos fibres.
