Abstract

1,230,715. Valves. MAX-PLANCK-GES ZUR FORDERUNG DER WISSENSCHAFTEN E.V. 24 Oct., 1969 [13 Nov., 1968], No. 52338/69. Heading F2V. A valve, which is suitable for controlling the pressure and/or temperature in a cryostat comprises a permanent magnet 4, 5, 6, an electrical coil 11 which is freely movable within an annular gap 10 in the magnet, and a closure member 13 which is formed with a pressure equalizing passage 15, the closure member and coil being secured to an annular corrugated membrane 12, and the closure member having extending between it and portion 6 of the magnet a bellows 16. In operation, current is fed to the electrical coil supply line 22 in consequence of which the valve member 13 attains a position relative to its seat 21 corresponding to the. supply, the current being derived from a pressure or temperature sensitive feeler inside the cryostat. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the permanent magnet is constituted by an electromagnet supplied with D.C., the housing is made to include a central internal projection within which extends the outlet passage (43), the valve member (38) is not formed with a pressurebalancing passage, and the annular membrane is substituted by three corrugated ribs (37). It is stated that the voltages applied to the driving coil may contain an A.C. component.
