Abstract

1,226,516. Bowden mechanisms. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 31 Jan., 1970, No. 4775/70. Heading F2K. The end of a Bowden cable conduit 1 is adjustably secured to a plate (not shown) by a fastener 19 having a portion 17 of non-circular cross-section adapted to extend through a corresponding aperture in the plate so that the latter is gripped between a flange 21 and resilient barbs 23, the fastener 19 being connected to the conduit 1 by a sleeve 7 having a cupshaped end 5 into which the conduit end is fitted and a threaded portion 9 which is screwed into the bore 15 of the portion 17 of the fastener. To adjust the conduit axially, the sleeve 7 is turned by a spanner applied to the end 5. The sleeve 7 and fastener 19 are of plastics. The sleeve 7 is of harder material than the fastener 19, and the thread in the latter is partly formed by screwing the sleeve into it, to give selflocking engagement. The cable core 3 extends through the sleeve 5 to a terminal fitting 8, a compression spring 25 acting between the fitting 8 and the fastener 19. A plastics sleeve 4 on the core 3 extends into an end portion 11 of the sleeve 5 to support the core.
