Abstract

1,226,336. Igniters for gas burners. ROTAX Ltd. 19 July, 1968 [4 Aug., 1967], No. 35954/67. Headings F4F and F4T. In an igniter for a gas turbine a jet of fuel is deflected by an atomizing target 22 into an annular air stream and is ignited by an electric heating coil 25. The body 10 of the igniter supports an annular member 17 and a support 24 for the coil 25, and has an outlet 15 through which the flame passes to the combustion chamber of the gas turbine. A member 32 threaded into the body 10 forms a fuel inlet 36 and supports a plate 34 with an aperture for forming the jet of fuel. A pressure pad 29 integral with the member 32 clamps the annular member 17, the coil-support 24, and an electrical connector 26 for the coil 25 in place. Air flows through apertures 16 in the body 10 into an annular space 19 between the body 10 and the annular member 17, and then flows into the annular member 17 via apertures 20. The flame is stabilized by air flowing into the annular member 17 via further apertures 21, or alternatively (Fig. 2, not shown) by radially extending rods (40).
