Abstract
1,225,616. De-aerating water. DEAERATOR SYSTEMS Ltd. 27 Jan., 1969 [26 Oct., 1967; 17 April, 1968], Nos. 48825/67 and 18246/68. Heading B1M. Water is de-aerated and re-solution of air prevented by spraying the water from nozzle 8, Fig. 1, into vacuum chamber 1 kept at a pressure of 2 to 10 inches of mercury below atmospheric pressure into which chamber steam is also introduced from 9 to heat the water to substantially the temperature, e.g. 200‹F at which the water vapour pressure is equal to the pressure of the gaseous phase in chamber 1. De-aerated water flows down pipe 4 into boiler feed tank 2 where a layer of steam forms over the water to inhibit re-solution of air. Steam may additionally or alternatively be introduced at 23, Fig. 2. The vacuum is maintained in chamber 1 by steam ejector 13. The flow of water through nozzle 8 may be controlled by valve 6 which is controlled by diaphragm sensor 19 which is sensitive to the height of water in tank 2, and the flow of steam at 9 may be controlled by valve 10 which is controlled by diaphragm sensor 12 which is sensitive to the pressure in chamber 1. A chemical oxygen scavenger such as sodium sulphite may be added at 20.
