Abstract
1,224,325. Lap-forming device, non woven fabric. K. K. K. KROYER. 11 Nov., l968 [15 Nov., 1967], No. 53347/68. Headings DIN and D1R. In apparatus for producing fibrous sheet material and which comprises in combination, means of disintegrating and defibrating the fibrous raw material, means for passing the fibres to a hammer mill 1 having a foraminous screen partially encircling the hammer, and a foraminous fibre layer forming surface located below the hammer mill and above a suction box 14, .the minimum distance between the lowermost part of the screen and the foraminous surface being U¢, where U=peri- KxV pheral speed of the hammer tips, K=constant depending on the screen used and of value between 0.65 and 4.00, and V=is the average air speed in the area between the screen and the foraminous surface. A shaft 3 extends between the screen and the surface. The walls of the shaft may be coated with lead to prevent accumulation of fibres thereon, and for the same reason the walls may be movable, e.g. consist of endless belts with means such as a suction device or a scraper or brushes for removing fibres from those parts of the belts facing the outside of the walls. Sealing devices such as rollers are located at the lower edge of the walls of 'the shaft, and the suction box may have means for regulating the suction pattern of the box. Alternatively, the walls of the shaft may consist of gas permeable vibratory plates. The integrator and defibrator may consist of a unit of the hammer mills 34, 35, the fibres being fed from the unit to the hammer mill 44 mounted above the foraminous surface by means of a endless wire belt. Binder may be added either in the shaft or to the fibrous layer. The hammer mill preferably comprises a housing 51 and a rotor consisting of a shaft 56 a number of rotor discs 57, 58 equally spaced on the shaft and a number of hammer pins 59 fastened to the rotor discs parallel to the shaft and hammers 60 pivotally mounted on the hammer pins. The rotor discs consist of oblong plates located at right angles to each other. Circular end plates and dividing plates may be fastened 'on the shaft. Each hammer is so constructed that its centre of gravity and the tip of the hammer lies in a straight line with the axis 56.
