Carboxylic acids are prepared by reacting an alcohol with carbon monoxide in the presence of an acid catalyst under turbulent flow conditions in a tubular reactor. In a preferred embodiment, isobutanol is converted to pivalic acid using cone. sulphuric acid saturated with carbon monoxide.
