Abstract

1,221,702. Wall plugs. W, V. WOLFF and D. BERTELSMANN. 26 Aug., 1968 [24 Aug., 1967], No. 40666/68. Heading F2H. A wall plug 1 has a bore 4 and an expandable portion having axially extending apertures 7 in which resilient strips 8 are positioned, the strips projecting beyond the general surface of the plug in the undeformed state of the plug. The leading end 3 of the plug is tapered and the strips 8 are connected to the body of the plug by webs 9. One end 8b of each strip has a sawtoothed profile 15 whilst the other end 8a has internal teeth 16 forming a thread to receive a screw &c. Each strip has a fin 17 to provide a degree of rigidity and assist in preventing the plug from rotating in a hole 11. The plugs are preferably made of plastics material and the strips may be separate from the body of the plug. In a modification, the bore 4 is tapered and the strips are not curved but extend parallel to the axis of the plug. A metal sleeve surrounding the plug and having apertures to allow movement of the strips is also described.
