[Also in Division C7] Apparatus for treating a magnetisable metal melt comprises a rotatable, refractory-lined, drum 1 having a truncated conical section 5-6 surrounded by windings 7 which when energised cause a metal melt 16 to flow from one end of the drum to the other against the force of gravity and countercurrently to a non-metallic phase 17 charged into the drum at the other end. The windings may be embedded in laminations 8 and the assembly may be either connected to or. separate from the drum. The ends of the drum may project into furnaces 11, 12 which may be tipped.
