Abstract

1,219,018. Purifying glycols. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 9 Dec., 1968 [7 Dec., 1967], No. 58418/68. Heading C2C. Glycols containing less than 2 wt. per cent of formaldehyde are purified by passing at a temperature of 150‹ C. through a reaction zone occupied by an ion exchange resin which is a strongly acid cation exchanger containing sulphonic or phosphoric acid groups in the active H<SP>+</SP>-form. The preferred temperature is 20‹ to 120‹ C. and the purification can be effected either on liquid or gaseous glycols.
