Abstract

1,215,532. Feeding and delivering sheets. DERITEND ENG. CO. Ltd. 10 Feb., 1969 [14 Feb., 1968], No. 7297/68. Heading B8R. Sheet feeding apparatus comprises a roller pair, a guide member extending towards the nip of the roller pair, means for blowing air through, or about, the guide member, and a plurality of vortex chambers connected to the surface of the guide member, for creating suction to draw a sheet towards the guide member. Fig. 1 illustrates apparatus in which sheets are delivered from the cylinders 10, 11 of a printing press, or die-cutter, to feed rollers 13, 14 over guide plate 20. Sheets are prevented from remaining on periphery of cylinder 11 by means of air under pressure directed by bores 42 under castellated leading strip 22 of plate 20, and they are drawn to no the surface of plate 20 by suction applied through bores 54 from vortex chambers (52), (Figs. 2, 3, not shown) with tangential entry passages (64) at their bases. Alternatively, air under pressure can be applied to the vortex chambers (52) which, because of their design, still create suction in the central areas of bores 54. The degree of suction in chambers (52) can be adjusted by a valve plug 56 or by controlling the fan (not shown) at the end of suction pipe 72, which preferably acts on the blowing source through pipe 32.
