1,214,932. Testing strength of materials. P. KIERKEGAARD-HANSEN. March 29, 1968 No.15355/68. Heading G1S. A method of testing the strength of the material of cast structures, such as concrete structures, comprises pulling a piston 3 embedded in the material 1 in an outward direction T towards an adjacent surface 2 of the structure, the reaction of the force of said pulling being transmitted to the structure by means of a counter pressure member 6 abutting against the surface 2 with an area which surounds and is larger than the pistons projection on the surface 2. In the embodiment illustrated, the material between the structure or ring 6 and the piston 3 forms a truncated cone with apex angle 60 degrees. The face required to fracture the structure in the shape of the truncated cone can be to a measure of the ampressive or the tensite strength of the material.
