Abstract

1,208,293. Bristle elements. FILAMENT EXTRUDERS PTY. Ltd. 24 Oct., 1967 [27 Oct., 1966; 4 April, 1967], No. 48298/67. Heading A4K. [Also in Division D1] Twisted fibres to be mounted in the sweeper head of a road sweeping machine or to be tufted into a broom or brush head are made by twisting a filament, heatsetting the twist in the filament, and cutting the filament into fibres. The filament may be twisted by unwinding it from a reel mounted in a rotating cage and heated by passage through an oven. The cage may hold two reels so that two filaments are twisted together and heat set. A pair of separate plastics fibres having a spiral or twist may be obtained by separating the filaments before or after cutting. A further cage with two pairs of pulleys may be connected to the main cage to prevent the plying twist running back into the main cage. Alternatively a filament may be twisted and wound on a still frame which is then heated by hot air. The filament may be of a polyolefin, polystyrene, polyester, or nylon, and may have a round, oval, or flat cross-section.
