Abstract
1,206,131. Reduction catalysts. BADISCHE ANALIN-& SODA-FABRIK A.G. 4 Sept., 1967 [5 Sept., 1966], No. 40310/67. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C1] A catalyst containing finely divided Cu for use in the production of H 2 by reaction of CO with steam is obtained by precipitating a Cu compound onto a carrier which is a mixture of ZnO with Al oxide, Al hydroxide, CaCO 3 , and/or MgCO 3 , in aqueous suspension, and reducing at a temperature not above 250‹C. The carrier may comprise bauxite, boehmite, hydrargillite, or calcite, and may also contain metal silicates e.g. kaolin. The ratio of ZnO to the other components may be 10:1 to 1:15. The catalyst may contain 5-70% Cu, and may also contain Cr, Mo, W, V, Ba, or Zn which may be added to the carrier or coprecipitated with the Cu. Precipitation may be effected at 40-70‹C and pH 7-9, using solutions of Cu salts and alkali metal hydroxides and carbonates. In exs, solutions of Cu (NO 3 ) 2 Œ Cr (NO 3 ) 3 Œ Zn (NO 3 ) 2 were used with Na 2 CO 3 . The catalyst may be dried at 180-300‹C, pelleted, and reduced at 150- 250‹C before and/or during the CO reaction, e.g. using 97% N 2 , 3% CO.
