Abstract
1297970 Hafnium base alloy cathode for plasma arc burner D G BYKHOVSKY and A Y MEDVEDEV 15 Dec 1969 [8 Jan 1969] 60965/69 Heading C7A [Also in Division H5] The cathode of an electric arc plasma burner for use in reactive environments (e.g. O 2 and/or N 2 ), as for cutting metals and metalloids, for welding, for melting, for surface fusion, for heating the reactive gases or for chemical and thermal treatment of surfaces (e.g. cementation or nitriding), is made of an alloy consisting of 70-99À95%Hf with an addition of one or more of Ba, BaO, La, Li, Mg, Mo, Nb, Re, Th and W. The cathodes may be made by powder metallurgy.
