Abstract

1295138 Electric couplings FERRANTI Ltd 18 May 1971 [30 May 1970] 26197/70 Heading H2E A connector member for use with flat multipleconductor cables comprises two body parts as shown. The cable 41 is placed on one of the members, Fig. 7, such that the insulating spigots 14 and the conducting posts 20 pass through holes in the cable insulation formed between the conductors (Fig. 6, not shown) and such that bared wire portions 40 of the cable lie face upwards on an insulating strip 22. When the body member of Fig. 5 is attached to the member carrying the cable (Figs. 8 and 9, not shown) the toe portions 37 of contact members 35 engage the lips 21 of connector members 17 and the heel portions 38 are forced down against the bared wire portions 40 of the cable. The hooks 34 engage notches in the spigots 14 and arms 32 also hook under the lips 21 of the connection members to hold the connector parts together. A special tool may be inserted in openings 39 to cause disengagement of the connector parts. Such a connector may be used as a terminal for the cable conductors or for connecting two cables together.
