Abstract

1293620 Anchoring bolts ASPORLIAN Ltd 9 Aug 1971 [15 Aug 1970] 39426/70 Heading F2H A method of securing an anchor bolt 12 in a drilled hole C in rock or concrete comprises the steps of inserting into the inner end of the hole a mechanically expansible plug B, inserting a cartridge A of settable filling material into the hole after the plug B, and driving the anchor bolt 12 through the cartridge A and into the plug B to expand the latter into gripping contact with the wall of the hole. The plug anchors the bolt while the material released from the cartridge sets hard. The cartridge may contain a synthetic resin and a hardener in separate rupturable sections, but preferably is of the type described in Specification 1,293,619, comprising an inner rigid brittle tube 3 containing water 6, inside an outer rigid brittle tube 1, with a mixture of portland cement and high alumina cement in the space between the tubes 1, 3. Readily frangible end seals 2, 4 of polyester resin close the ends of the tubes 1, 3. The tubes are of polystyrene. The plug B is of polypropylene, slits 9 extending over most of its length. Alternatively the plug may have a fulllength split to allow expansion, and may have an external groove opposite the split so that the plug breaks into two halves on entry of the bolt. The plug may be serrated externally and in a further alternative form, may have internal longitudinal grooves to allow expansion. Several cartridges A may be used in a deep hole.
