Abstract

1291841 Laminates CAPSEALS PACKAGING PRODUCTS Ltd 19 Feb 1970 [29 April 1969] 21774/69 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Laminates may be prepared by applying to at least one of the materials to be laminated a hot melt adhesive composition comprising (1) atactic polypropylene obtained in the manufacture of isotactic polypropylene by extraction with high boiling solvents and containing 2 to 15 weight per cent of residual solvent, and (2) at least one waxy or resinous substance. The substance may be a paraffin wax, polyethylene, hydrocarbon resin derived from petroleum or wood, or an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer. In examples (1) webs of kraft paper are bonded with compositions of atactic polypropylene and paraffin wax; and (2) reinforcing yarns are bonded to paper with compositions of atactic polypropylene, polyethylene and petroleum resin. Other compositions exemplified contain atactic polypropylene together with (3) paraffin wax and petroleum resin, (4) polyethylene, and (5) paraffin wax, cyclic hydrocarbon resin, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer and reclaimed polyethylene.
