Abstract

1291664 Cushions SOC ANON BELGE D'EXPLOITATION DE LA NAVIGATION AERIENNE 26 May 1971 [23 June 1970] 17144/71 Heading A4M A seat, couch or bed includes a cushion 4 or 5 comprising an airtight envelope 6 containing a coherent mass 7 of resilient, porous cellular material, a three-way valve 8 operable selectively to vent the interior of the envelope 7 to atmosphere or to connect the interior to a vacuum pump 29 or to seal off the envelope 7, and a layer 15 of air permeable material contained in the envelope 7 and disposed over at least a part of the face opposite that to which the occupant's weight is applied such that air withdrawn through a pipe 9 by the pump 29 passes through the layer 15. The layer 15 may comprise reticulated foam or an agglomeration of filaments. A rigid backplate 20 may form a part of the envelope. A further reticulated foam layer 27 overlies the envelope 7. Reinforcing frames 22 are disposed in peripheral slots 23 in the cellular mass 7. As shown, cushions 4, 5 form parts of a seat with a hollow frame 2 acting as a reservoir disposed between the envelope 7 and the pump 29.
