Abstract
1290443 Dispensing and packaging device LOHRING 30 Jan 1970 [30 Jan 1969] 4673/70 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] A device for dispensing and packaging measured volumes of a flowable particulate or viscous product comprises a vertical wheel having spaced-apart, radially-extending, openended cells 12 which are successively gravityfilled from a hollow hub 4 communicating with a feed hopper 8, containers which may be preformed or formed in situ being placed over the cells. If preformed containers 21, e.g. bags, sachets, packets, are used, a curved slide 23 is provided to support each container as its cell is filled during anti-clockwise continuous or intermittent rotation of the wheel. At a slide bend 24 each filled container 21 falls down a shoot 25 on to a conveyer 26. A hub closure 28 prevents product loss following container withdrawal. The containers may be placed over the cells manually or automatically. If formed in situ, the containers may be produced by guiding a folded plastics web 32 over the wheel with a web layer on each side thereof, and heat-sealing/ cutting 33 a web portion about a filled cell during the dwell period of the wheel. The wheel rotates clockwise and is provided with a hub closure 39 which extends over substantially the upper half of the hub circumference. The cells which may be interchangeable and have fixed nozzle rings 31, may have a square inner and rectangular or elliptical outer cross-sections. The front or rear wall of each cell (30, Figs. 3, 4) may be connected to a common rotatable disc (40, Figs. 3, 4) to effect simultaneous cell volume change. The opposed wall of each cell may be connected to a second common disc which may be rotatable. One or more axially spaced series of cells may be provided on the hub. Scales which may be synchronized with the wheel drive and a container top welder may be provided adjacent conveyer 26. The wheel may have a belt, chain, friction wheel, gear ring or ratchet drive. A suction nozzle and/or hopper sieve may be provided to remove fine material.
