Abstract

1287262 Automatic current control UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 3 Sept 1969 [5 Sept 1968] 42371/68 Heading G3R [Also in Division H1] Current through an electron beam processing apparatus flows through resistance R5, Fig. 2, the voltage across which is compared with a reference voltage set by a dial 52 and used to control the current flowing through a diode gate 54 to a control electrode 2, thereby maintaining a constant current through the apparatus. The electrode 2 forms a control electrode for a glow discharge between the cathode 21 and the anode enclosure 7 which provides a source of electrons for the processing apparatus. A neon tube 53 in parallel with resistance R5 protects against current surges.
