Abstract

1284333 Thread accumulators; winding and unwinding machines; tensioning devices K I J ROSEN 9 April 1970 [11 April 1969 9 Jan 1970] 16920/70 Headings DID D1F and D1J Thread is supplied as required at substantially constant tension by an accumulator comprising a plurality of rollers 2-5 spaced around a central shaft 1, at least one of the rollers (in this case 3, 4 and 5) being driven, and at least one of the rollers (in this case, all) being inclined out of parallel with the central shaft, so that as the rollers are rotated, thread wrapped around them is moved down the rollers and more thread is drawn on at 9. One of the rollers (2) has an axle 18 which is pivoted at one end 21; and moves in a slot 23 at the other, so as more windings are accumulated the roller swings, under the influence of the yarn tension, towards the centre shaft, a lever arm 32 mounted on the axle 18 then acting on a switch 16 to stop the driving motor 10. The thread is withdrawn over end through a guide 37 after passing over the bulged edge 27 of a disc 26 driven by shaft 1 to rotate in the same direction as the rollers. A friction ring 28 having inclined spring fingers applies tension to the withdrawn yarn.
