1281610 Vehicle wheels RUBERY OWEN & CO Ltd 27 May 1971 [12 May 1970] 22763/70 Heading B7C In a road wheel, consisting of a pressed steel nave fitted within a separately formed rim raised portions of the nave 6, 7, on the outside of the mounted wheel, extend substantially to or beyond the part of the rim 2 of least diameter and are angularly spaced about the axis of rotation of the wheel, the radially outer ends of these raised portions being spaced from the adjacent parts of the inner surface of the rim 80 that, in use, air can flow from the inside of the mounted wheel through the gaps so formed. Said raised portions are of such outlines and so disposed so as to give the appearance of spokes. The nave has a gapped peripheral flange 4 of such diameter as to be a tight fit in the part 3 of the rim to which it may be welded or riveted. The radially outer end of each raised portion of the nave may be notched or otherwise shaped to provide a passage of increased area for the flow of air. In a further embodiment conventional vent holes may be provided in the nave between the radially extending raised portions.
